Matthews Police Chief Rob Hunter was honored Monday during a meeting of the Matthews Town Council upon his retirement from the Matthews Police Department.
Matthews, NC – Matthews Police Chief Rob Hunter was honored Monday during a meeting of the Matthews Town Council upon his retirement from the Matthews Police Department. Mayor Jim Taylor announced the Matthews Police Department Building will be renamed The Rob Hunter Law Enforcement Center. Chief Hunter will retire from the Matthews Police Department effective October 1. He announced his retirement in July.
Chief Hunter was selected as Chief of Police in 1993. During his 24 years as Chief, Hunter has led the department during a period of tremendous growth. When he joined as a Patrol Officer in 1987, the department had just 16 sworn officers and three civilian employees. Today the Matthews Police Department has grown to a staff of more than 80 full and part-time employees and 25 dedicated citizen volunteers.
Chief Hunter resides in Matthews with his family. He remains actively involved in various local service organizations and his church youth group.
