Neighborhoods affected include Wynechase Estates, Suburban Woods, Reid Harkey, Squirrel Lake Village, Castle Cliff and Windrow
Matthews NC - The Town of Matthews today announced that Blount Construction will be applying a pavement preservation product to various roads throughout town beginning Monday, June 25th. This continues the cost-effective effort by Matthews to maintain town roads in good condition, rather than waiting for them to fail before fixing them. The product being applied is HA5, a high-density mineral bond that protects the road from degradation from UV rays and rain for 5 to 7 years. HA5 takes about 8 hours to cure.
The current schedule for next week is:
Monday, June 25 - Wynechase Estates and start Suburban Woods
Tuesday, June 26 - Complete Suburban Woods and start Reid Harkey
Wednesday, June 27 - Complete Reid Harkey and Squirrel Lake Village
Thursday, June 28 - Castle Cliff and start Windrow
Friday, June 29 - Continue Windrow (to be completed the following week)
Please note that the schedule is subject to change because of weather or other delays. Notices will be delivered to affected residents several days before the work begins. To sign up for notifications through CharMeck Alerts, please visit: http://charmeckalerts.org.
Note for residents from Blount Construction: Roads will be closed during application of HA5 beginning at 8:00 AM until the product has cured at 6:00 PM. Residents are asked to move their cars out of these areas before 7:30 AM. Golf carts will be provided to bring people to and from their houses and nearby cars while the road is closed. Do not park cars on the road or have anything else on the road on the day of application. Water will damage the product until it has cured, so please turn off your sprinklers the night before the application in your area.
The contractor is working with Republic Services to have trash and recycling picked up before the roads are closed, so please make sure that you get your cans out the night before if your trash day coincides with the day of an application in your area.
The contractor is also working with mail service, but there may be a day delay when the product is applied.
Beginning the week of July 2, the contractor will move to the remaining roads in the contract including East Charles Street/Tank Town Road, Crestdale Crossing, Country Place and Pine Forest. A more defined schedule for these areas will be provided next week.
Although this project will cause inconvenience while the product is applied, the long-term benefits are well worth it. The Town first applied this product in the Sardis Mill neighborhood in September of 2016. Now, two years later, the product looks as good as the day it was first applied.
