Matthews Moving Forward with Downtown Improvements

During a meeting of the Matthews Board of Commissioners on Monday evening, Town Engineer Susan Habina-Woolard provided an update on the Town’s ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian safety, provide better walking and biking facilities, improve parking, and create a cohesive, attractive downtown area.
 

Matthews, NC – During a meeting of the Matthews Board of Commissioners on Monday evening, Town Engineer Susan Habina-Woolard provided an update on the Town’s ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian safety, provide better walking and biking facilities, improve parking, and create a cohesive, attractive downtown area. 

Three Town-led transportation planning and design projects in Downtown Matthews are underway. First, the Town will  consider modifications to the intersection of N. Trade and Matthews Station Street. The Board will be presented with a proposal next month. 

Second, the Downtown Mobility and Parking Study continues. This project began in March 2019. A three-day charrette was held in May 2019. The proposed plan will be presented to the Board in November 2019. 

Lastly, the Town continues efforts to improve the streetscape along Trade Street. The plan is expected to be presented to the Board for their consideration in May 2020.
