On Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at approximately 11:36 p.m., Matthews Police Communications was informed by the Union County Sheriff’s Office that Deputies were pursuing a stolen vehicle on Hwy. 74 (Westbound) approaching Matthews. As the suspect entered Matthews, he traveled through the intersection at Matthews Mint Hill Rd., then crossed the center median and came to a stop in the parking lot of 10940 E. Independence Blvd. The suspect got out of the car and fled on foot.
To contain the suspect to one area, a perimeter was established by officers/deputies. Matthews Police K-9 along with Union County Sheriff’s Office K-9 ran a scent track within the perimeter and located the suspect nearby. The suspect was arrested and transported back to Union County by Deputies.
Matthews Officers were not involved in the vehicle pursuit and there were no injuries reported from this incident.
